The Styling Room, Gritz style!

When you travel, what do you have as your prized possessions.....the little Lucky Blankie, a book you have been waiting to read UNTIL THIS vacation, nerves, Xanax for the airplane ride, a new movie hoping the little one is entertained, hand work....or.......

Your eyelashes?

Mom's hand appliqued beauty that is so breathtaking to me with the greens and purples.  She never ceases to amaze me!!!!!  and we are both having it laid out so we can inspired how to quilt it...

Mom and I were laughing yesterday as I told her about LeeAnn's quilts at Nifty Quilts...she and Mom have done the 2 recent quilts in opposite directions...LeeAnn did eyelashes in Red then Leaves while Mom did the opposite.  LeeAnn was even wonderful enough to share some leaves with mom.  The beauty of BLOGLAND!  Mom asked me last night, "Did you ask LeeAnn what her next project is so that we can coordinate?"

Your tattoo?
Mom's most recent ink from Mexico....The design is so delicate and could be a pattern for a border quilt design....Hmmmm, I was looking for ideas for the batik outer border... Mom got her tattoos in the past decade and is a reminder to me when I see them that there is no age limit on LIFE and that she is the woman who has inspired my SPUNK, SPICE, and somewhat ZANINESS and most important, devotion to family!

And are you asking, "Em, how does the title of this post fit in with this narrative?".....Welll..

If you google The Styling Room you will find a business imploring you to find your favourite boutique showing up at your home with fabulous accessories, good friends and great food.......

Well, My mom must be on their payroll HE HE HE!  Mom is a medical transcriptionist so she can work anywhere...BEAUTY OF INTERNET!

I always love her visits because she brings her TRUNK SHOW and moves in making her room HER ROOM
Here she is at work and trying to not be distracted...I am not good at leaving her alone....When her shift is over we get to quilt some more....

Mom's nameplate for her room. Sean bought this a couple of Christmas' ago and it always reminds me and my family that when she is gone, she will return...

This whirly fun-ness will be a riot to quilt!  Bernie is behind me begging me to have mom call in WELL so we can praactice some more...Below is her first leaves done on Bernie...

All that open space......

And now for some encouragement for quilting practice!  I have my cheerleader pom poms and waving them with zest!  and....of course...a tear in my eye as I just read Green Fairy's most recent post.  She touches me whether we are giggling at lunch, hugging before her trunk show in Panguitch or through texts and posts...Go to her blog and enjoy cheerleading from her also and see her original free motion quilting, it is so inspiring to see where one can go when they have talent, dedication to the learning process, and GOING FOR IT!!!

As I am posting my quilting, many of you kind readers are complimentary of my progress and typing that you are feeling more inspired to dig in like I have and let go of the perfectionism.....I encourage you to start with this quilt idea with the swirls.  So fun and so easy!!!!!  DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!  Then send me photo!

Rah Rah Rah!

This sunflower reminds me how much I long to someday see a field of Sunflowers in Italy...........

Give me a Y...Give an O...Give me a U.....What does it spell, "YOU!" can do it!

Or this for a starter, simple and gives a lot of movement......Get out your free motion foot and put on your big-girl pants, DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!!!!

And of course as a finisher for this cheer session...
YMCA......YMCA...I hope that someone is dancing with me and doing the hand motions!

1 block to go....so...Off I go!

I hope you have enjoyed a Styling Room girlfriend party this morning with me!  Good coffee, you are my good friends, and mom's trunk show....Praise be to God on this Sunday and may you be inspired to do a quilting technic that scares you!

Love, Em

PS.....do you have a tattoo?  I am thinking of doing a collection of quilting patterns with tattoos and would love to see yours for inspiration.  I do not have one but am happy to live vicariously through you all.  If you don't have one but have a friend, grab a camera.... a type of Papparzi act you might say...That's mom was calling me today!

Pss...and if I haven't conveyed it already, THIS WEEKEND IS MY MOTHER's DAY with mom here and cracking me up!

Love mom's new tat! I turned 70 in February & had the numeral 70 with some curlicues inked on my ankle! Made #3 for me. I did have two old ones reworked last year.

Again, we are on the same wave-length! Tell your mom I'm quilting tops and doing some tile quilt applique. I'll bet she's done that before. Her quilt is absolutely beautiful. And thank you for the rah rah about FMQ!

YOu and Roxy just keep getting better! MOm's quilts are always so cool--I love the way you say that she reminds you that there is no age limit on LIFE. What an amazing compliment!

I have no tattoo (yet). My mom got hers when she was 50, right on her rump! And Em, you continue to inspire, not just with your work, but also with your words.

Loved your mom's tattoo. I noticed it tonight. Did you see mine on my ankle? :-) Lloyd has 3...butterfly, panther, and marine corps. Mine is a crazed weasel....a nod to my graduate school days. If you want, I'll send you a pic and explanation. :-) Or maybe I'll blog it!
