There is something so marvellous about the support and friendship of womanhood! I am so in love with the below photo because it seems so ethereal and takes on the appearance of a cross...and many of you know how much I love and collect crosses! Well, enough about me!
The pictures below are from a blog friend who took on my challenge and cheerleading session to grab a 12" block from the stash and try her hand at FMQ...the sent to me....I am smiling big and asked her if she remembered to breathe while quilting it, I still have to remind myself because I get so focussed on wanting to do it well and improve.....
I have included her note and am hoping that her "grabbing the bull by the horn" as we say here in Utah and running with it encourages you...SEND ME PICS!!!!
Emily,
Well, I put my big girl pants on, pulled out the extention table for my machine, gathered up all my threads, and sandwiched a 12" block.
I must admit I was nervous. But I just kept thinking of you. So I put the pedal to the metal and away I went. I did some outlining, swirls, a few pebbles, and I had a ball. It's not perfect, but it will get better because I plan on doing lots of practice. (I have a ton of 12" blocks that I'm not sure what to do with). I need to adjust my tension because the top thread is showing on the bottom but gratefully the bottom is not showing on the top. I ran out of bobbin thread and didn't want to stop to rewind so I threw in a bobbin of varigated thread. You can see on the back.
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I had the quilt you made me next to me for inspiration. By the time I was done I wasn't as nervous and I am anxious to try some more. So sometime this week I will work on block #2. This time lots of pebbles and maybe some meandering.
And so it is.....women meeting women and goading and encouraging in this fabulous Blog Universe to try out the daunting and let go of the perfectionism....Hmmmmmmm.....
Is there someone who has introduced you to something that changed your life, pushed you to new limits of your being or simply reminded you that you tried it and it was ok that it didn't work out?
And to think if Victoria at Bumblebeans had not hosted a 12" block giveaway, something from nothing, Miss Big Girl pants and I would have never met!
Love, Em

For what it is worth, I am determined to try pebble quilting ... I love the look, but I have told myself for too long that "I can't do that" -- I have tons of precut batting squares, just need to pull out top and bottom fabrics and have at it ... in a day or so, I hope to show results
You know, the best favor any single person ever did for me was to say "poppycock!", leading me to seriously re-examine my life and how I wanted to live it. It was a key turning point that led to a liberated life that dropped 90% of my depression problems and allowed me to build a strong, happy family of my own over the next decades. I'm ever-so-thankful for those key people who show up (or are placed) along our Life Path!
(sorry - wasn't quilty, but she's been on my mind a lot lately)
AWESOME!!! Plus awesome story's!!
Wow she did a great job for her first time.
